The comic book movies, notably Marvel’s line-up, rake in huge revenues. Smashing records, one after the other, these films saturate our theatres. Actors and actresses are now their comic book characters. Henry Cavill is Superman. Henry named his dog Kal-El, Superman’s real name. Scarlett Johansson is Black Widow. She has been her character for eight years now. Benedict Cumberbatch is a great actor, but his character, Doctor Strange, may be getting the better of him. Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr. are sinking fast into the comic sea. Hell, even Gwyneth Paltrow is now, these many years after her best actress Oscar, Pepper Potts. I cannot think of any serious roles these actors and actresses can be linked to that stick in our minds. They are paid well for their comic book roles, and the movies promoted beyond belief. However, it hurts to see these talented performers doing less, not more to elevate their art. On to the next Comic Con! One bright note, Henry’s dog still has his dignity.
